Fuel Saving Tips

There has been a constant increase in the fuel prices in the recent times and it is going to follow suit in the future too. Therefore it is advised to reach maximum fuel efficiency by modifying some of the driving practices. You can try and squeeze a bit more distance out of each gallon of fuel and an improvement of even one or two miles per gallon can really benefit. Some easy to follow tips can help you become fuel efficient drivers and save fuel for future in the process, also cutting down on the costs for yourselves. These tips when used in a combined fashion can really make a big difference to the gas mileage.

1. Drive moderately- The faster you drive, the more gasoline your car consumes. The aerodynamic drag increases exponentially with speed and this decreases fuel efficiency. Driving at 62 miles per hour rather than 75 miles per hour would reduce fuel consumption by about 15%. Try driving the speed limit for a few days and you will save a lot of fuel without increasing your journey time substantially.

2. Avoid sudden jerks- Sudden acceleration and deceleration waste fuel, therefore sudden braking and abrupt stopping should be avoided by keeping safe distance from vehicles ahead to allow ample reaction time and by anticipating traffic signals. Avoid unnecessary speed ups, slowdowns and stops and you will increase fuel economy by as much as 20%.

3. Drive in high gear- Switching on overdrive for automatic transmission cars can help save fuel since it allows your engine to change gears at lower revs. It increases fuel economy by switching to economy mode. The engine runs most efficiently between 1,500 and 2,500 rpm and to maintain these low revs, you should accelerate slowly and achieve highest gear as soon as possible in manual vehicles.

4. Evade excessive idling- Minimize fuel wasted in idling by shutting off the engine when you anticipate being stopped for more than a minute. Idling consumes more fuel than restarting the engine for the same time.

5. Clean air-filters regularly- Clogged air filters restrict the flow of air into the engine and increase fuel consumption by up to 10%. Replacing or cleaning the air-filters can improve the car fuel economy by an average of 1 mile per gallon, reduce levels of emission and also cut down on the costs of repairs.

6. Inflate the tires properly- Deflated tires increase fuel consumption and drag on the road. Keeping the tires properly inflated can increase the fuel economy by up to 1 mile per gallon. Deflated tires also wear out prematurely and affect the vehicle adversely. Use high pressure to maximize fuel efficiency.

7. Use air-conditioning carefully – Air conditioners use about 10% extra fuel when operating, but at higher speeds, use of air conditioning is better for fuel economy than an open window. Use air conditioner if absolutely necessary because it reduces the fuel economy as well as engine power by around 10%.

8. Avoid carrying heavy loads- Reduce excess weight in your car and pack lightly for long trips. Additional loads of up to 50kg can increase fuel consumption by 2%. Remove unnecessary weight from your vehicle to save fuel.

9. Keep windows closed- Open windows increase drag when in speed and decrease fuel economy up to 10%. Keep the windows closed or slightly open when driving on highways and/or at speeds of 80-120 km/h.

10. Use cruise control- If the facility is available in your car; use cruise control to maintain a constant speed over long distance to save fuel.

Apart from all these, use vehicles only when you really need and try walking short distances to save fuel and improve your health simultaneously.

Necessary Precautions For Cars

Maintaining and caring for car will increase its performance and life expectancy. Car maintenance includes routinely washing and waxing car, going through a full annual inspection, making seasonal preparations, and knowing what engine repair warning sign tells you.

Car Repairs: Safety Precautions
By making sure that you have got the proper tools for the job you are completing the precaution system. If the particular job calls for a socket ratchet then there is a need of reaching there for that old pair of pliers to get the job done. It may need to invest in some more new tools, but the initial investment will pay itself off in no time.

Cars & Pollution – Precautions
Cars, which are necessary today, are very harmful to the environment. The survey of average American automobile emits its own weight in pollutants into the atmosphere each year. Auto emissions account for about 60% of air pollution (especially ozone smog) in cities. Reformulated gasoline , Inspection or surveys and maintenance programs such as PUC have been introduced in many areas to reduce emissions occurring which causes a way to pollution. Helping to reduce the impact of driving a car on environment by Walk instated of driving, ride a bicycle, use public transportation, or carpool whenever possible makes driving less which is not surprisingly, the best way to reduce automobile pollution. Buying a car, with a considered thought of purchasing the most fuel-efficient model in its size or category.

Auto Detailing: Engine Precautions
Take necessary auto engine detailing initial precautions like tightening caps when spraying an engine with water. Try discovering what water can do to an unprepared car motor.

Follow the steps below for auto detailing:
Rinse off engine and compartment
Apply complete environmentally safe water based engine degreaser to entire engine along with areas where excessive dirt exists.
Let  it set for  5 minutes, let degreaser dry, keep it wet
Rinse engine completely and thoroughly
Start engine and let run for a minute or two
If there  is an air compressor it is a good idea to blow off any excess water
Precautions for the car before taking it for a road
Check for oil, tyres, fuel, make sure  front and back lights and all other indicators are working in proper condition, get to know all the controls, turn mobile off, and enjoy the ride.

Engine Tuning Tips for Cars

Engine tuning is the adjustment, modification with design of internal combustion engines to yield optimal performance, to increase an engine's power output, economy, or durability. Tuning describes a wide variety of adjustments and modifications, from the routine adjustment of the carburetor and ignition system to significant engine overhauls. At the other end, performance tuning of an engine can involve revisiting some of the design decisions taken at quite an early stage in the development of the engine. Your car should receive a tune-up every two years or 30,000 miles, whatever comes first. During this tune-up process a car may receive some new parts that will hopefully keep it out of the shop for a while or a month.

Some important Engine tuning tips

  • Where to Start Engine Tuning- Start tuning up your car by removing the distributor cap. Make sure that you remember the position of the cap so that you are able know how to replace it again and where to replace it. Check out for any signs of wearing. Once the distributor cap is put off, we can take out the rotor and replace it. If you’re in need of replacing the rotor, you should also replace the distributor cap with it, as they react to make a spark. Replacement of the spark plug wires and the spark plug is also necessary from time to time. This will give you better start up of the engine every time .Also, while replacing all of these elements, check the air filters. They should be also replaced if there is apparent wear in them.

Oils and Lubricants-Use high quality oils and lubricants when tuning up your car. One of the most important thing while doing a regular tune up is to top up or completely change the fluids in the car. Change motor oil every 3,000 miles to get the best performance out of your engine. Use coolant additives such as Water from Redline to bring down the temperature of your engine. Oil filters should also be changed every other time you change your oil.

  • Further Maintenance for your car -A tune up generally includes replacement of several parts on your car. These parts are seen superficial, but failing to replace them regularly can cause decreasing performance of the car, and may even lead to other problems. For example, consider air filter should be replaced at least once in a year, failing to replace it when it's dirty causes your engine to get lessen of the air it needs to run properly. If the problem is left not attended, the air-fuel mixture will continue to run more richly and r much fuel and not enough air in the mixture. Maintenance that is not included in the basic tune schedule may also be required, so a yearly tuning  Up provides a good opportunity to check the car's systems.

Such as the brakes and clutch, all fluid and oil levels, and the operation of any other systems that are not used or checked regularly. If the tune up is performed in spring weather or early summer, the air conditioning system should be checked as well, as it likely will not have been used for many months. When you perform any diagnostics it's not much good to get, for example a voltage reading should be known correctly with what the correct reading should be. Since testing has become an exact science, diagnostics have to go in a certain order or else the test results which you will get could be meaningless. So you need to find the latest factory diagnostic sequences and specifications for this purpose.
